Who are you?
I am Suraj Dinakar Shetty, aka Suraj Synthesist intertwines diverse cultural influences into a captivating blend of sound. Hailing from India. I am not merely a musician but also a dedicated music educator, enriching both audiences and students knowledge and music expertise.
My musical repertoire is a byproduct of social conditions, and of my musical learnings and exposures. I have learnt & performed Indian Classical (both Hindustani and Carnatic), Western Classical, and various Western genres. The result is a fusion of Progressive Rock/Metal infused with World Fusion elements, ambient jazz and similar stuff. Moreover, I have provided live musical accompaniment for professional theatre productions across multiple Indian languages.
I made solo release with my album "Consume this album….(Before the ban)," a bold exploration of political and social themes prevalent in Indian society. Technically, my music uses a lot of Odd time signatures, Indian Music Scales, and poignant lyrical arrangements (wherever lyrics exist).
My album "Consume this album….(Before the ban)" delves into political and social themes, albeit marred by vocal critiques. However, the latest instrumental track, "Determination," showcases the fusing of diverse scales and melodies into a harmonious crescendo. While maintaining its apolitical stance, the artwork subtly nods to socio-political movements, echoing themes of resilience.
Where are you from?
Suraj Synthesist hails from India, a country renowned for its rich cultural heritage and diverse musical traditions. The Indian music scene is as diverse in culture and colourful as the number of languages (over 100s) or cultures that exist, incredibly vibrant and multifaceted, reflecting the country's vast cultural tapestry and centuries-old musical legacy.
There are many types of folk music per festivals & regions and also Indian classical as Hindustani music and Carnatic music. Then there is Bollywood, devotional, and contemporary popular music. Each region of India contributes its own distinct flavor to the musical landscape, resulting in a rich mosaic of sounds and styles.
In cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata, and Bangalore, the music scene is particularly dynamic, with a thriving community of musicians, artists, and music enthusiasts. These cities host numerous concerts, music festivals, and cultural events throughout the year, attracting both local talent and international artists. Rock/metal used to be a hype uptil 2015 , but its making comeback with Rock/metal fests restarting & new networking sites/communities. Jazz is fairly existing but more as club performances & jazz Festivals
Classical music, deeply rooted in Indian tradition, holds a prominent place in the music scene, with maestros and virtuosos commanding immense respect and admiration. At the same time, India's contemporary music scene is marked by a fusion of traditional and Western influences, giving rise to innovative genres such as fusion, indie, and experimental music.
Music from India's film industry especially Bollywood (mainland & hindi) music has more influence on most Indians than the other genres or the music from Other Language Movies (Tollywood/Kollywood, etc). They are characterized by catchy melodies, rhythmic beats, and vibrant orchestrations, enjoys widespread popularity both within India and among the Indian diaspora worldwide.
Overall, the Indian music scene is a dynamic and ever-evolving ecosystem, constantly influenced by tradition, innovation, and cultural exchange.
